Amy Barber
A Deaf Lady from Florida
by Amy Barber

Hello! My name is Amy Barber. I am the owner and creator of this small home-based business called "Amy's Little Signs".

I also work for Department of the Children and Families of Volusia County as a service provider for the deaf clients who need help. I have taught sign language classes over many years and right now I am not doing this. I might return to teach again in near future.

I am married to a wonderful man, Chuck, from Louisiana, deaf like myself. I have two grown hearing children, Gordon and Adrienne and her little boy, my grandson, Tyler. Adrienne married a deaf guy named Matt last Saturday, August 9th. Chuck, Gordon, and I reside in an old house in a nice town near the ocean in Florida. We worked hard, renovating our house, using my artistic talents. It was such fun creating our house into a real nice home. We have two cats and one big mixed breed dog (had another dog, too, but he was killed by a rattlesnake a couple of years ago, saw that with my own eyes - oh it was awful) When Chuck and I are not too busy, we love going out in our little boat with our dog whenever we can. We always love to see dolphins, manatees and turtles in the sea. My family and animals are full of love. I am blessed with such a good life. I always try to make the world a better place for everybody. I know life is not easy. Just stay positive and focus on good things. God is so good. He is awesome.

I am a proud member of several organizations: National Association of the Deaf, Florida Association of the Deaf, Greater Daytona Beach Association of the Deaf (where I am the secretary), Fraternal Society of the Deaf Division # 168 (where I am the president), Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of Volusia and Flagler Counties, Chamber of Commerce of Southeast Volusia County, Harris House of New Smyrna Beach, Atlantic Center of the Arts, American Craft Council, American Association of the Home Based Business, Florida School for the Deaf Alumni Assocation, American School for the Deaf Alumni Association.

My email address is deafhands@ucnsb.net. I'd love to hear from you.

Thank you!
