Deaf Car Race

The Deaf Race Car Driver
By David Durden

Favorite driver: I like all the drivers and include Nascar.

How did you get started in racing? I acquired the desire to race when Steve Ross, my wife's brother, began to run Late Model in 1994. I decided to race my 1991 Open Wheel car in 1999. I wrecked my race car last year and, since it couldn’t be fixed, I found and bought a 1997 Open Wheel model. I like my current car better than my old one.

How they came about using the car number? Because Steve Ross put his #25 on his race car, I decided to use the same number as him as we help each other out on the track.

Future plans with racing: No future plans with racing. I am going to stick with dirt track racing for now. I race for fun not into competitive.

Biggest influence: My family and friends.

Career Highlight: I won my first 3rd place trophy was at Garnertown Speedway on June 15, 2002.

Scariest moment: It was a little scare (but not a major one) when I went over the hill at Garnertown Speedway with my old race car.

What tape or CD is in your car/truck right now?I am deaf. But my children like country and Christian music.

What is your favorite movie? I don't have a favorite movie. I like action/karate movies.

Who is the best driver you have raced against?: I enjoy racing with David Garner #59 Open Wheel.

Any lucky charms or superstitions? I put several pennies inside my racecar for good luck. I don't know if that helps.

Who helps out with the car work, and how did they get involved? My wife helps me with the setup such as weight, measuring, fuel, and etc during the week in the shop at home, and my wife's brother, Steve Ross, comes to the pits whenever he can to help. My wife video tapes my racing every weekend.

What kind of racing would you like to be doing in 5 years? Asphalt? Different Class? I like to stick with dirt track for now. I won't be changing class in the near future.

Do you watch racing on television? Yes, my family and I watch Nascar racing.

What class of dirt track racing do you find yourself watching most other than yours? I enjoy watching my wife's brother Steve Ross races his Late Model.

Driver Comments: I enjoy racing at Bargerton. I will be back to race in the year 2003.
