Personal Biography & Family Information
|
I was born 8 April 1945 in Dayton, Ohio. My parents are Robert Edward Orrill and Ruth Irene Miller. They weren’t sure if I was born deaf or became deaf as a toddler. They sent me to the Kennedy School for the deaf in Dayton, Ohio when I was 4 years old. This school taught me to speak instead of learning sign language. I later learned to sign from my deaf friends and though books. After high school graduation in 1964, I was hired at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to work with a type of typewriter called a cold-type composing machine. In 1972 I was promoted to an Illustrator working in the graphics department at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In 1988 I then became a Computer Graphic/Digital Illustrator. I finally took retirement in December of 1999 after 32-1/2 years of service.
