Karen Boyd was born Deaf to Deaf parents and has a Deaf brother and sister. She has worn two behind-the-ear hearing aids since the age of five.

Karen is a specialist in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services with Disability Services at University of Colorado at Boulder, is a student taking a graduate course in linguistics, and as well as an American Sign Language tutor with Student Academic Services Center. She also is a faculty member in American Sign Language at Metropolitan State College of Denver at Auraria campus, and a a member of American Sign Language Teacher Association.

She has worked as a volunteer for more than 20 years with sports organizations including US Olympic Committee and 2001 USA Team at Deaflympics in Rome, Italy. In the past summer, Karen taught 101 of 9th/10th grade Native American students in American Sign Language with CU's Upward Bound program.

Karen is a full time single mother of two hearing teenage sons. Karen gives energetic, educational and sense of humor presentations about growing up in an oppressive hearing society, as a Deaf feminist, and Deaf and sports culture.
